The proposal of reducing the hours worked per week and extending the weekend for employees is a contentious matter. I strongly oppose this notion because it could diminish overall productivity and adversely affect businesses and the economy.

The main reason I oppose a shorter workweek with longer weekends is because it could lead to a decline in overall productivity. Many industries and businesses depend on the existing five-day workweek to maintain a smooth workflow and meet deadlines efficiently. Shortening the workweek could disrupt this balance, making it difficult to complete projects on time. For instance, when my company, which produces garage doors, tested a shorter workweek, frequent disruptions in production schedules occurred, causing missed delivery deadlines for customers.

Furthermore, I believe that shorter working hours could adversely affect a business's profitability. Many companies operate with tight budgets, and reducing working hours could increase operational costs due to the necessity of additional l shifts or hiring more staff to cover the company's operational hours. This change could be particularly challenging for small businesses already struggling with limited resources. For example, a small retail business I consulted for discovered that cutting employee hours required them to hire part-time staff, which increased payroll expenses and disrupted service continuity, ultimately leading to financial strain and decreased customer satisfaction. This financial burden could potentially lead to bankruptcies, harming the broader economy.

In conclusion, I completely disagree with the proposal to shorten the working week and extend the weekend. The potential reduction in productivity and the negative impact on businesses' financial stability are significant concerns. Therefore, maintaining the current workweek structure is crucial for ensuring consistent productivity and supporting economic stability.
