Many people assume the American Revolution began on July 4, 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence, although the war actually began in April of that year. It all began with a clash between local militia and British forces in Massachusetts. The American Revolution was the result of this.

The United States would sign the Declaration of Independence, declaring their independence from the British, just 13 months later. The war raged on from 1775 until 1783, with an estimated 50,000-70,000 casualties on the American side alone. The United States was not fighting the war alone; it had the support of Spain, France, and the Netherlands. What is the total cost of the war to the US? $2.4 billion, roughly the same as the Mexican-American War.

Number 8. Spanish-American War
The Spanish-American War was fought between Spain and the United States in 1898 and lasted just over four months. The Spanish were at war with Cuba at the time, which had declared independence from Spain in 1895.

Slavery was a major cause of the Civil War in the United States. On one one, there had the Union North, which was anti-slavery and had elected Abraham Lincoln to the presidency of the United States.

Operation Desert Storm was the name given to the fighting phase of the Gulf War, which began in January 1991. Over 34 countries participated in the conflict, which began when Iraq invaded Kuwait and annexed the country. The battle was only 42 days long, finishing in February 1991. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States became involved in the war, which lasted until 1945.

Following the 9/11 attacks on the United States, the War on Terror began, $8 trillion. The war evolved over time in terms of who the US is fighting and where the conflict is taking place.
