In this video we will learn about who, where, and what is God? According to Scripture, God is an eternal, immortal, invisible Spirit. He is Omnipresent (meaning He is everywhere; aware of and active in all space at the same time). He is Omniscient (All-knowing and infinite in wisdom), and He is Omnipotent (All-powerful; Almighty). The first mention of God is in Genesis 1:1, where the Hebrew word for "God" is Elohim. The first mention of LORD (Yahweh) is in reference to God (Elohim) in Genesis 2:4. This helps us to understand that LORD (when it's in all caps) is always referring to Yahweh who is God (Elohim). Genesis 24:3 confirms this once again.

When we turn to Deuteronomy 6:4, it reads, "Hear, oh Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD." Understanding the Hebrew, this is saying that Yahweh our Elohim is one Yahweh. By turning to Mark 12:29, we see Jesus speaking this forth where we can see the Greek equivalent to those Hebrew words. So when Jesus said, "Hear, Oh Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord." We can see that the Greek word for "Lord" is "Kurios" and the Greek word for "God" is "Theos." This helps us to connect the word "Lord" in the New Testament with "Yahweh" from the Old Testament and "God" from the New Testament with "Elohim" from the Old Testament.

So God (Theos/Elohim) is a Spirit according to John 4:23-24. We then learn in 1 Corinthians 8:6 that there is only one God (Theos/Elohim), the Father. So the Father is a Spirit and He is Yahweh Elohim (LORD God) from the Old Testament who created the heaven and the earth. The Old Testament establishes that the LORD (Yahweh) is the only God (Elohim) and there is none else beside Him. This LORD is the only savior, redeemer, Holy One, creator, and King; the Rock, the first and the last, and the one to whom every knee would bow and every tongue confess (Isaiah 43:10-15; 44:6-8; 45:5-6, 18-23).

No man has seen God at any time because God is an invisible Spirit (John 1:18; 1 John 4:12; Colossians 1:15; 1 Timothy 1:17). Moses saw the manifestation of God, but not the Spirit of God. God can manifest Himself (a burning bush, a dove, theophanies) and one could see the manifestation of God but one couldn't actually see God because He's an invisible Spirit. We will learn something powerful in future videos regarding Jesus and how when Jesus was born, angels were able to actually see God for the very first time (1 Timothy 3:16). Jesus is way more than just a theophany of God, but is actually God manifest in the flesh. His manifestation in the flesh is permanent unlike a theophany only being a temporal manifestation and not a permanent manifestation in the flesh as a man.

God is also eternal. He is without beginning or end. His name, Yahweh, reveals that He is the Self Existing One. Psalm 90:2 declares He is from everlasting to everlasting. Genesis 21:33 says that the LORD (Yahweh) is the everlasting God (Elohim). God is immortal and He alone hath immortality according to 1 Timothy 6:14-16. Since God is an invisible, eternal, omnipresent Spirit, He will never cease being that. Any doctrine that teaches God ceased being an omnipresent Spirit is false.

Understanding more about who God is according to the Old Testament will help us to receive a revelation of who Jesus Christ is as we read through the New Testament, not forgetting what we read about the LORD (Yahweh) in the Old Testament.
