This is part of a video series providing retrospective analysis of popular culture (video games, books, comics, movies), trying to understand how our taste in entertainment has changed over the last few decades. In these videos look at topics such as the history behind their creation, the cultural impact they had on the wider world or just celebrate high watermarks - experiences that deserve to be celebrated. In 2018 video gaming became the worlds single most popular form of entertainment however that does not mean other forms are dead or deserve to be forgotten. We have been fortunate enough to reap the benefits of an evolving industry that learns from both it's successes and mistakes - and I've been learning as a consumer. This series is designed to celebrate and share important milestones and significant releases; be they good or bad.

From Wikipedia:
Lego Dimensions is a Lego-themed action-adventure platform crossover video game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox One and Xbox 360. It follows the toys-to-life format, in that the player has Lego figures and a toy pad that can be played within the game itself where it features characters and environments from over 30 different franchises. The Starter Pack, containing the game, the USB toy pad, and three minifigures, was released in September 2015, while additional level packs and characters were released over the following two years. A third year of content was planned, but was cancelled in October 2017.
Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack (also referred to as 71244 Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack or 71244 Level Pack) is a Sonic the Hedgehog themed Lego level pack for LEGO Dimensions which was released on 18 November 2016.
The product includes three Lego toys set on pedestals which allows compatibility with the game LEGO Dimensions. When the figures are placed on the Toy Pad, the game will receive data from the toys and unlock content based on the toys in the game.
When the Sonic the Hedgehog figure is used in the game, it unlocks a playable version of the figure in the game along with Sonic the Hedgehog World, a LEGO Adventure World based after various locations from Sonic games and a level that features separate levels, and a Battle Arena based on Carnival Night Zone. The world and level have LEGO versions of Badniks that not only harm the player but also makes them lose collected studs/rings in the same manner as the Sonic games.
