John Dowland’s music for viol consort and Robert Burton’s recitation texts are combined in this recital. Melancholy is link between the collection of pavanes, galliards and allemandes Lachrimae, or Seaven Teares (1604) and the treatise The Anatomy of Melancholy (1621). Both feature in this concert, which explores the many faces of this passion that intrigued and attracted the composers of the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
