Macro footage of Fairy Shrimp in an ephemeral pool in Canyonlands National Park. After an autumn rain, these fairy shrimp hatched within 24-48 hours and their entire lifecycle can be as short as a week or two. This species' eggs somehow survive months or even decades on bare rock through scorching summer temperatures and freezing winter ice and snow.
