California Sea Lions hunting Salmon
Ever wonder why they are called “sea lions.” In Northern California, we followed a river to where it met the ocean and witnessed a powerful wildlife event. Every October, the salmon make a dash upriver to spawn, and the California sea lions are lying in wait. The biggest bulls are near 8-foot long and 1,000 pounds – beasts! – and they chase down lightning-fast 2-foot long salmon and swallow them whole. Recreate Responsibly.
