We booked a regular daytime ticket which brings you up to the 68th floor and then you have access to the 3-story indoor viewing deck on floor 69, as well as the partially outdoor deck on floor 72. Coffee, gelato, and snacks are available on floor 69.
Weekends and sunset times are pretty popular, so you should book ahead if you plan to visit during those times, but otherwise you can buy your tickets on site. However, if you have purchased tickets ahead of time, you can skip the outside line, which is a bonus.
So is the experience worth the ticket price? You'll have to watch the video to decide for yourself. We felt like it was worth it. We've been to a lot of observation decks around the world and the experience at the View from the Shard was lacking. It really is just a view and a couple photo ops, but not real immersive or engaging experience that sets it apart from other observation decks. The view is incredible, though, so they can get away with that being the only real value for the ticket price.
