Sheepherding is an important part of the Navajo culture and has been for centuries. In 1990, we had the privilege of filming Susie Yazzie enjoying the morning with the flock in Monument Valley.

Sheep are probably the most important livestock for the Navajo, providing wool for rug weaving and food. Monument Valley is the Navajo homeland and part of the Navajo Nation.

For Monument Valley tours and lodging information, visit www.gouldings.com. Goulding's Lodge and Trading Post is an ideal central location to explore the Native American culture in Monument Valley with knowledgeable Navajo guides.

This "Sheepherding" video is part of a Navajo Cultural Traditions bonus feature on Finley-Holiday's "Monument Valley: Navajo Homeland DVD." Available on location in Monument Valley and from www.finleyholiday.com.
