Tamarindo Beach Town FAQ: Surf & Nightlife Guide

Q: Where exactly is Tamarindo?
A: On Guanacaste's Pacific coast, 1 hour from Liberia Airport. Main beach road 2 km long, packed with shops, bars, surf schools. Town has banks, medical clinic, surf shops all walkable.

Q: What's the surf like?
A: Multiple breaks for all levels. Beginners learn in front of Diria hotel. Advanced surf at river mouth. Morning offshore winds best. Surf schools ($50 lessons), board rentals ($15/day).

Q: What can you do besides surf?
A: Popular activities: Estuary boat tours ($45), Sunset sails ($85), Sport fishing ($500-800), Beach horse rides ($65), Yoga classes ($15), Night turtle tours seasonal ($40).

Q: How's the beach scene?
A: 3.5 km curved beach, mix of dark and gold sand. Swimming good at mid-tide. Beach chairs for rent ($10). Sunset around 5:30 PM. Many beach bars. Watch afternoon rip currents.

Q: Where to eat and drink?
A: Food for every budget: Beach restaurants ($15-30), Local sodas ($6-12), Food trucks ($8-15), Beach bars. Fresh seafood common. Busy night scene until 2 AM. Most places take cards.

Q: What about lodging?
A: Beach hotels ($150-300), Mid-range places ($80-150), Hostels ($15-30). Book ahead December-March. North end quieter, center busy, south end near river mouth best for surf.

Q: How to save money?
A: Local tips: Eat at sodas not beach spots, Use public bus from airport ($4), Morning surf lessons cheaper, Happy hours 4-7 PM, Shop at Auto Mercado not tourist shops. Share taxi rides.
