This is my first day on the classic 1980 telemark setup. I'm skiing the Vasque Telemark leather boots with Atomic Telemark skis (it says telemark on the side) mounted with the Chili from Rotoffella.
Ok the Chili is not a telemark binding from the 1980 but I didn't find better.
This is me, revisiting the evolution of the telemark gear as I have experirienced it over my twenty + years of experience. This is the first setup tested in this series.
I found this 210cm atomic telemark ski to be very stable and the binding skied really good. The real challenge is to get used to the Telemark boots as they are very soft and provide no support. The good news is that telemark leather boots are super comfortable.
To learn how to telemark on this telemark equipment is actually a good thing in my mind. First, you really have to be balanced at all time. And you can't fake telemark, going semi alpine like. This setup provides lots of fun and it skied pretty good. The hardest was to move on the flat, as it feels like cross country skis.
The real difference I found while going down was the lack of shape in my Atomic skis. Since the is not parabollic shape, you have to pivot the front foot in order to initiate the turn.
