UniFi remote user VPN is an easy to create and easy to use way to allow users to connect to UniFi internal network from any location and from any device.
With UniFi remote user VPN, you can securely access internal devices, servers, NAS devices, etc without punching holes in your firewall in the form of port forwarding. Since you are connecting to your network with a VPN, you don't need to port forward anything, your access to internal resources will be done on top of the VPN tunnel.
The UniFi remote user VPN is using the L2TP protocol to create the VPN tunnel. The L2TP protocol has long been considered not too secure, especially not comparing the more modern SSL VPN which is a certificate based authentication VPN. So, be sure to use extremely complex passwords and keys.
Overall, using the UniFi remote user VPN is the better option compared to port forwarding to gain access to internal resources, so if you are looking to facilitate a method for remote connections to your internal resource, you will be better off with a UniFi remote user VPN.
