Today, I'm sharing a beginner-friendly, step-by-step, watercolor Christmas cookie tutorial. 🎄
These cookie illustrations would work great as part of a greeting card design to give away to loved ones this holiday season, but also provide a great opportunity to practice essential watercolor techniques.
These watercolor cookies were painted in layers, using both wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques, and I also brought in splattering for extra texture. 👩🎨
Tons of tips are shared along the way, including how to avoid overworking your illustrations, how to pre-wet areas effectively for soft/diffused effects, and how to develop a wide range of values and translucencies for a greater sense of realism.
