"The Secret Deployment" also known as "The Socialist World Republic", was written first as a poem in 1929 by Erich Weinert, with the melody being written in 1930 by Wladimir Vogel. It became popular in the mid to late 1930s among German communists and anti-fascists with the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis to power in Germany, and the song became a popular rallying song for German and Austrian communists under the boot of Nazism. Although the song with its original lyrics retained its popularity after the defeat of fascism, another version known as "Der Offene Aufmarsch" ("The Open Deployment") was written in 1957 about the American imperialists and NATO which saw wide use in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) at military and Party rallies.
