People of Mauritius mobilize to save nation's natural treasures
The island nation of Mauritius declared a “state of environmental emergency” earlier this month after MV Wakashio, a Japanese-owned ship, that ran aground offshore in late July, began spilling much of its 4,00 tons of fuel.
The people of Mauritius have since rallied to the cause and done everything they can to save the valuable ecosystem surrounding their island. Meanwhile, investigations are underway as the governments of Mauritius and Japan come under fire for not acting more quickly.
