Wie die großen Ikonen ihrer Musik klingt Désirée Dorothy jetzt schon: Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys schimmern durch, wenn die Sängerin ihr markantes Organ bemüht. Dabei hat die Wahlberlinerin in diesem Jahr zunächst einmal ihre Debüt-EP „When Mercury Fades“ aufgenommen. Vorher trat sie als Synchronsprecherin in Erscheinung, unter anderem für Netflix-Produktionen wie „Dark“, arbeitete aber auch schon mit Chefket und Robot Koch an Songs. Doch die Ambitionen sind größer, reichen bis zur internationalen Karriere und den Grammys. Bei den meisten Sängerinnen ihres Kalibers würde die Reaktion auf solche Ziele wohl spöttisch ausfallen. Doch als May The Muse bezirzt Dorothy mit einer stimmlichen Präsenz und musikalischen Emotionalität, die tatsächlich nirgendwo anders besser aufgehoben ist als ganz oben.
Vom 22.-25. September fand das Reeperbahn Festival 2021 nicht nur vor Ort sondern erneut auch im umfassenden Livestream statt. Seit dem Debüt im Jahr 2006 hat sich das Reeperbahn Festival zu einem der wichtigsten Treffpunkte für die Musikwelt entwickelt und zeigt, wie sich ein überbordendes musikalisches Line-Up mit musikwirtschaftlichen Interessen und zivilgesellschaftlichem Engagement verbinden lässt.
Neben Konzerten umfasste das Programm auch Formate aus der Bildenden Kunst oder Virtual Reality sowie ein thematisch vielfältiges Film- und Literaturangebot. Im Rahmen von Sessions, Showcases, Networking Events und Award-Shows konnten Fachbesucher*innen des Reeperbahn Festivals Musik neu denken, erleben und hören.
Unsere Festivals finden im Zeichen des Miteinanders statt– Rassismus, Sexismus, Homophobie und Ausgrenzung finden bei uns keinen Platz.

Désirée Dorothy already sounds like the great icons of her music: Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys all filter through when the singer uses her distinctive voice. This year, the Berlin-born singer recorded her debut EP “When Mercury Fades”. Before that, she appeared as a dubbing artist, among other things for Netflix productions like “Dark”, but she has also worked on songs with Chefket and Robot Koch. She has bigger ambitions though: her targets are an international career, and the Grammys. Most singers of her calibre setting such goals might be mocked. But as May The Muse, Dorothy charms us with a vocal presence and musical emotionality that really belongs nowhere other than at the very top.
From September 22-25, Reeperbahn Festival 2021 did not only take place on site but also in a comprehensive livestream once again. Since its debut in 2006, Reeperbahn Festival has become one of the most important meeting points for the music world and shows how an exuberant musical line-up can be combined with music business interests and civil society engagement.
In addition to concerts, the programme also included formats from the visual arts or virtual reality as well as a thematically diverse film and literature offering. In the context of sessions, showcases, networking events and award shows, Reeperbahn Festival professionals were able to think, experience and listen to music in a new way.
