No Doubt Excuse Me Mr EXPLAINED
Meaning of No Doubt Excuse Me Mr
"No Doubts hit single "Excuse Me Mr" is a song about a girl who is desperately seeking the attention of a lover who appears to be uninterested. Quite the opposite message of a song like Spiderwebs, in which the main character of the song is desperately trying to avoid the advances of a former lover. Some speculate that the song is about bassist Tony Kanal, whom Gwen had broken up with prior to writing material for Tragic Kingdom.
The band originally record an alternate version of the song upon request of the producer. However, that version was lost and No Doubt had to record the song again. This time, they decided to play it their preferred way, which is what we hear on the final album.
As drummer Adrian Young told Complex in 2012:
“When we recorded that, we used to play it the way it is now, and our producer wanted us to play it almost kind of like a country-shuffle, and so we gave it a shot. We later decided that we didn’t really like that, but the other version was erased from the tape.
