"Old School Hollywood" is one of few System of a Down songs to utilize heavy synthesizer effects. It's also just about the only System of a Down song which talks about baseball.
The song was written by guitarist Daron Malakian after taking part in an annual Hollywood Stars' exhibition game hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Malakian was a lifelong Dodger fan and was initially excited about the opportunity. Who wouldn't be excited to play baseball with other celebrities in a stadium where they grew up watching their favorite athletes perform?
That is, unless those other celebrities ruin the moment by being egocentric jerks.
As Daron explains,
"I wouldn't say it was a nightmare, but it was weird..."
