Halo Infinite has much to prove for its year-long delay... and it delivers. Microsoft's E3 2021 presentation reveals a multiplayer that looks fun, and a campaign snippet that hint's at Halo Infinite's story direction. It was clear that 343 Industries seek to recreate the magic from legacy Halos, with a modern spin.
Graphics are looking good too, with the "flat" look of last year's presentation replaced by truly next-gen lighting. Sealing the deal is the well-presented offering of maps, each with interesting backstories. For example, in Bazaar, we explore the streets of Old Mombasa post-Covenant glassing.
We also learn of new vehicles, weapons, and equipment. Gone is "red versus blue" team colours. In their place, customizable coatings will appear on every Spartan. New customization options appear too, with every player getting their own "Personal AI" in multiplayer. In the trailer, we see "Lumu", but no doubt there will be other interesting options to choose from.
Big Team Battle sees an upgrade from 16 players, to a whopping 24! In this chaotic game mode, pelicans will drop in new vehicles... and "ordnance". You'd be forgiven for thinking this was a resurgence of Halo 4's "personal ordnance" (aka killstreak rewards), but 343i's Unyshek assures us it only refers to random weapon drops ( / 1404169442876026881 .
With Halo Infinite's multiplayer going free-to-play, we see a battle-pass system that never expires.
And finally, we are treated to a small segment from the campaign, featuring Cortana's clone: "The Weapon". This looks great, and poses even more questions as to where Halo will go!
