In this video, we explore the life and achievements of Sophie Germain, a trailblazing mathematician whose work laid the foundation for many mathematical theories and advancements. Born in 1776 in Paris, Germain pursued mathematics despite societal barriers that restricted women from academic careers. She was largely self-taught, studying mathematics through books and correspondences with renowned mathematicians like Carl Friedrich Gauss. Germain made significant contributions to number theory, elasticity theory, and mathematical physics, particularly known for her work on Fermat's Last Theorem. Her pioneering research in elasticity also won her a prize from the Paris Academy of Sciences.
