In order to maximize profits, the entertainment industry has to appeal to both a queer as well as queerphobic audience. The queer community is therefore still rarely represented authentically, says influencer, journalist and historian Leonie aka Frau Löwenherz. She talks about political, historical, feminist and queer issues on TikTok and explains to us for Reeperbahn Festival Deep Dive how the entertainment industry initially coded people as queer without ever saying it and thus created a series of supposedly queer Disney villains and serial killers through its deep-seated prejudices, only to realize later that even little representation is enough to attract a large queer target group. This led to queerbaiting, the baiting of queer audiences with hints of queerness, for example from actors or musicians, but always without open acknowledgement, so that the LGBTQIA+ community is still left in the dark about whether it is being represented or just abused financially.

Um Profite zu maximieren, muss die Entertainment Industrie sowohl ein queeres als auch ein queerphobes Publikum ansprechen. Die queere Community ist daher immer noch sehr selten authentisch repräsentiert, sagt die Influencerin, Journalistin und Historikerin Leonie aka Frau Löwenherz. Sie spricht auf TikTok über politische, historische, feministische und queere Themen und erklärt uns bei Reeperbahn Festival Deep Dive, wie die Unterhaltungsindustrie zunächst Menschen nur als queer kodierte, ohne es je auszusprechen und so durch ihre tiefsitzenden Vorurteile eine Reihe vermeintlich queerer Disneybösewichte und Serienkiller schuf, um später zu merken, dass auch wenig Repräsentation ausreicht, um eine große queere Zielgruppe anzulocken. Das führte zu Queerbaiting, dem Ködern dieser Zielgruppen mit Andeutungen von Queerness zum Beispiel von Schauspieler*innen oder Musiker*innen, aber immer ohne offenes Bekenntnis, sodass sich die LGBTQIA+ Community immer noch fragen muss, ob sie repräsentiert wird oder nur finanziell benutzt.
Das Reeperbahn Festival ist das größte Clubfestival Europas und die größte europäische Plattform für internationale Popkultur und Musikwirtschaft. Es ist gleichsam Bühne für internationale Talente und Diskussionsraum aktueller Entwicklungen. Auf diesem internationalen Marktplatz entstehen Impulse, die die Zukunft von Musik und Gesellschaft prägen und deren Wirkung weit über die vier
Veranstaltungstage hinausreicht.
