Johannes Gutenberg changed a screw press into a printing press, thus allowing mass replication of texts. The mixture of linseed oil and soot to produce the printing ink, the specific mechanism of the press, the accurate positioning of the sheets of paper, and the pressure transmission by the so-called bar are characteristic of this inventive step.
