Arbeiter Von Wien - Рабочие Вены - Workers Of Vienna (English Lyrics)
"Workers of Vienna" is a German communist song popularized in the DDR (German Democratic Republic) and written in 1927 by Fritz Brügel after 89 protesters were murdered in Vienna during the July Revolution. The melody was taken from the Soviet song "White Army, Black Barron" (also known as "The Red Army is the Strongest") written by Samuel Pokrass. The song was first performed and popularized among Austrian and German-speaking communists at the 2nd International Workers' Youth Day in Vienna. After the defeat of fascism and the formation the German Democratic Republic, the song was popularized again by East German singers and in American and British occupied West Germany and Austria where it spread to non-German speaking countries like Norway, Hungary and Japan.
