Many people asked me about my backing tracks so I wanted to share them with you, let’s hope there aren’t any copyright issues so I can keep doing it.
Mini Lesson:
If you want to play over the original song like I do on my Solo of the Week videos you can replace the solo with a part of this extended Backing Track. However I encourage you to use this video as a way for you to explore what you like about Marty’s playing and style and doing it with your own hands, or growing your own moustache as Mattias Eklundh puts it.
If we think that the harmony for this solo is in B minor the chord progression is:
Bm I G I Em I F# A (these last two chords change faster)
In order to keep it simple Just play B minor (Aeolian) or B minor pentatonic scales over all the chords.
I didn’t include the chord quality of any chord because the rhythm section is not playing the third in any of these, so any chord could be seen as either major or minor. To explore these possibilities start by playing G# instead of G over the E chord, another option is to play A# intead of A over the F# chord, the second one is more commonly used and will probably be easier to implement in your playing.
