What is Nation State? Ending?
With the agricultural revolution that took place in 10 thousand BC, the history of mankind experienced a great revolution in every sense. In order to fight against nature, to provide food and to protect the food obtained, to protect what they have obtained against wild animals and other people, people have approached each other and started to group. This association required organization after a while. After a while, the human beings who have been established and organized under the yoke of a certain power have created the so-called state.
Parallel to human social evolution, the so-called State has gone through a certain evolutionary process. The city-states whose examples are encountered in ancient Greece are one of the oldest known state types. In time, the city-states came together and became kingdoms. In the following years, the kingdoms came together to form empires and after the French revolution nation-states emerged. In order to accept a community of people as a nation, there are various elements that it must carry.
In the video, I tried to elaborate the basic elements of the Nation State model. In short, these elements; Language unity, cultural unity, historical unity, the other image.
There is a mutual relationship between nationalism and the nation-state model. For example, in countries such as Germany and Italy, nationalism emerged before the nation-state. But in countries that have experienced foreign occupation or colonial experience, a nation-state model was first put into practice by some intellectual nationalists and then a homogeneous nation was formed in accordance with this state.
Before applying the nation-state model in a country, national identity must be established. According to Wayne Norman, a political philosopher known for his work on citizenship and nationalism, a series of social engineering methods are applied to build nation for the nation-state model.
