Kateryna, participant of UNHCR's Refugee Speakers Programme 2024, shares her story at UNHCR's World Refugee Day event Pass the Mic.

Kateryna recounts the harrowing escape from her home in Ukraine to seek safety for her young family in Sweden. Here, she has found comfort and resilience through leaning into gratitude. Through her project VOICE4Ukraine she shares stories of Swedes showing solidarity with Ukrainians affected by war.

"This war will last a long time. And my refugee status also. I already know that for sure. But what else do I already know with all my heart?  In times of sorrow and despair, 'it is better to do something instead of nothing."
