Crack closure effect on fatigue

This video shows the effect of crack closure on crack growth estimation. Two methods for estimating the closure load is used to obtain the effective driving force, DK, for integrating the Paris law. The results show that the method using the closure stress at the crack as a criterion to obtain de closure load provides good agreement with the experimental test. No inclusion of the closure effects results in conservative estimation.
