ELZA SOARES is A mulher do fim do mundo - The woman at the end of the world.

The title track from her forthcoming album is a sweeping, psychedelic-samba that pictures Elza as the lone woman at the apocalypse, singing as the world ends around her.

Romulo Froes wrote the track for Elza “so it could translate her strength and indestructibility. It is Elza who will continue to sing until the end of time - as if the last sound heard on earth were her voice."

As a black, working-class, single mother who overcame poverty, racism, sexism and countless personal tragedies to become one of Brazil's greatest samba singers Elza is an icon in Brazil, especially for the country's repressed black, female, gay and working class populations.

She is the singer who cries out against racial, gender and sexual discrimination and with THE WOMAN AT THE END OF THE WORLD she has delivered her most potent, call-to-arms yet. “Music is protest", says Elza. "While there are still black people taking a beating we will have music to make”.
