What's your favorite opera finale? Fidelio and Chenier excerpts- *READ DESCRIPTION*
Hello all.
I was listening to a couple of my favorite opera finales today and was wondering what others thought on the subject. So, what's your favorite conclusion to an opera, and why? You can name more than one, and if there's a particular performance that you love feel free to mention that too.
I have included excerpts of my 2 favorite opera finales, Giordano's "Andrea Chenier" and Beethoven's "Fidelio." You really need a studio recording or a better live recording to capture all the nuances but I want to avoid copyright issues :P and these are good performances. Sorry for the live 60's audio. ;-) And please note, these are not necessarily my favorite performances of these works, just 2 of my favorite finales well performed for demonstrative purposes. ;-P
