The Confederate Battle Flag
I'm not interested in exonerating the meaning of the CSA battle flag. I'm mostly interested in making sure we keep it in context as a part of our history. A history that has included inhumanity against our fellow humans fairly consistently over time. We can track injustice and inequality from the first Native American slaves sent to England, to the first African slaves brought in chains, through Jim Crow laws, to Japanese-Americans held at Manzanar, to the Stonewall riots. Casting our sins on any one symbol is learning the wrong lesson from history.
