You'll need to know how to port forward if you intend to reach a global audience with your multiplayer game! In this tutorial, I explain how port forwarding is accomplished which will enable your game to be connected to over the Internet. I also explain the situation where the server and client reside on the same local network.
NOTE: Even though this tutorial is labelled as a Game Maker tutorial, it is not exclusive only to those using Game Maker. You'll find quite a bit about port forwarding in general here too.
NOTE: If you plan on making your internal ip address static, do so before you set up the port forwarding to it.
