A physical activity intervention for learning disabled adults.

Occupational Therapist, Clare McShane, gives us an overview of her research, completed as part of her MSc occupational therapy degree course at Sheffield Hallam University:

80% of learning-disabled adults do not meet Department of Health recommendations for physical activity participation. Physical activity may reduce all-cause mortality amongst the learning-disabled population and is connected with community participation. This session will introduce a physical activity intervention for learning disabled adults, discuss the views and experiences of learning disabled participants in a research study which used this intervention, and provide an opportunity to explore how the intervention could be used in OT practice.

Clare McShane is a qualified occupational therapist who completed her Masters occupational therapy degree at Sheffield Hallam University. She completed her research project on a physical activity intervention for learning disabled adults, including the views and experiences of learning disabled participants.
