In this video we learn the choices of spelling when you hear the "K" sound at the end of the word what letters do you spell with? We make this multi-sensory by using an Orton Gillingham Approach by finger spelling the sounds on our fingers that will illustrate short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds. My Teaching Method I invented is illustrating the long and short vowel sounds on my fingers (Finger Flow Phonics). Did you know we can spell with ck when the vowel before it makes the short vowel sound In order for it to be considered a closed syllable there must be a vowel right next to the "K" sound (e.g. truck, sick, sack neck, knock). When the vowel is making a long vowel sound or a different sound you simply spell with k or ke (beak, teak, seek, make, take). This also teaches the student to spell with the correct syllable type, closed syllables, vowel teams, silent e or that other type of syllable type like bossy r syllable (bank, bark). My Teaching Method that I use is making a cheat sheet that represents the vowel symbol sound with the correct spelling of the sound "K" ( Teaching Method CK-K Spelling Patterns Matched to Vowel Symbols). This makes it visual for that student as they listen to the sounds like listening to the sounds that come out of a sea shell. My teaching Method uses A sea shell to illustrate you must listen to hear the sounds from the sea shell (My Teaching Method Spell Shell Method) and same with spelling you must listen to all the sounds to spell then use your vision to look at the cheat sheet to decide what to spell with. Connecting sound to the vowel symbol helps the student connect sound with the correct spelling. After while they won't need the cheat sheet.
