"Our beliefs about ourselves impact every decision we make."

Kara Vandas explores of how educators can develop positive learner identity in the students they serve. Students often believe that if they struggle in their learning, something is inherently wrong with them. Struggle is not only part of learning, but if learners don’t struggle, they fail to feel the thrill of “getting it” or having a mastery moment. Thus, their efficacy and belief in themselves as learners isn’t positively impacted.

In this session you will learn how to:
• surface the hidden beliefs students hold about themselves as learners
• transform our language in order to change student focus and definitions of successful learning
• impact student beliefs and develop a way of thinking and doing that promotes efficacy and motivation
