With 340 days of sunshine a year and mild temperatures all year round, the Canary Island of Tenerife is a real holiday paradise, not just for classic pool and beach holidaymakers. What few people know: almost half of the island area of Tenerife is under nature protection, several beaches and stretches of coast have been awarded the "Blue Flag" eco-label. Since March 2021, the island has also been part of the first certified whale sanctuary in Europe. For years, the topic of sustainability on Tenerife has increasingly come into focus. The island boasts a completely CO2-neutral village - the first of its kind in the world! Holidaymakers can stay in bio-climatic houses, bathe in natural volcanic pools or stroll through a palm garden that grows on a former landfill. Thanks to a special greening project, the mountains of rubbish have disappeared from view and instead of rubbish, species protection is now the focus: A total of 2,000 different plant species are cared for in the Palmetum - including 70 species threatened with extinction. From the viewing platforms, visitors look out over the sea, the port city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Anaga Mountains Biosphere Reserve.
