Kurland created her female utopia through collaboration with her models, drawing inspiration from the cautionary tales of teenage delinquents and the adventure stories that often centred around young boys. Kurland’s protagonists are carefree and strong, living a life in solidarity and in youthful bliss. Idyllic fantasies.
Photographed between 1997 and 2002, the girls in the photographs are no longer girls—and they’re ”no longer coming back”.
