In this video we wind the clock back almost nine years, to see what Auckland's rail network was like one day in November 2010. The idea behind this compilation was to show you all what the city's railways were like, and just how much they have changed since 2010.
The most significant change over the past nine years has been the electrification of the whole suburban rail network, apart from the Papakura to Pukekohe section. Another significant occurrence is the retirement of the DBR class, with the last of these engines going in April 2017. One of the DBR's that appears in this video - 1254 - is now preserved at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway.
One last thing worthy of mention is that there isn't a single DL in any of these photographs. I think this was right around the time the first six DL's arrived in New Zealand. In other words, these photographs were taken almost immediately before the start of the DL arrival/invasion.
