Donald Trump has been hit with fresh charges over claims he illegally conspired to steal the 2020 US election.

The former president is accused of spreading lies and trying to defraud the United States by obstructing the vote count.

It is an attempt by prosecutors to circumvent last month's Supreme Court ruling that granted the former president's immunity for official acts.
