Covering the balcony with plastic panels makes it warmer. In this 1st part I will show you how to insulate walls and make lathing from metal profiles for attaching plastic panels. To insulate the walls, I will use polystyrene foam, although it is better to use polystyrene foam. The principle of insulation is the same. I will not waterproof the insulation, since plastic is a good waterproof barrier.
I will use polystyrene foam 5 centimeters thick, but the thicker the better.
The procedure for insulating the loggia is as follows:
Using a knife and a ruler, cut out sheets of plastic of the appropriate size;
We fix it on the walls of the loggia with special fastening “fungi”;
Carefully fill with polystyrene foam all the cracks and holes that remain between the sheets of polystyrene foam or expanded polystyrene.
The procedure for installing the sheathing for fastening plastic panels is as follows:
We mark horizontal lines on the walls at the places where the metal CD profiles are attached in increments of 50-60 centimeters;
Using these marks, we fasten metal EC profiles using dowel nails for fixing CD profiles;
We cut the CD profiles to the width of the walls and fix them strictly vertically to the EC profiles with small screws - “fleas”;
We design marks on the ceiling and floor for attaching the UD metal profile;
We fix UD metal profiles on the ceiling and floor using wood or metal screws.
If necessary, we finish the threshold on the loggia using ceramic or granite tiles.
