Southern stem canker disease in soybean is caused by the fungal pathogen Diaporthe aspalathi. This pathogen caused significant economic loss, especially in the southern region of the United States. To control southern stem canker disease, genetic resistance remains the most effective and economically efficient method. Screening of resistant individuals is the primary step in the genetic improvement of southern stem canker disease in soybean. In this video, phenotyping procedures to screen resistant soybean lines to southern stem canker disease using a modified toothpick method are shown.
