Violent clashes erupted in Rome on Saturday between protesters and police during a pro-Palestine demonstration. Protesters started gathering in the capital's Piazzale Ostiense in the early afternoon in defiance of ban by authorities. Italian police had not authorised the rally for security concerns as it was called on the eve of the anniversary of the October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel. After a few hours, the Palestinian community spokespeople declared the demonstration over. However, a large group of masked protesters tried to force a police cordon. Police responded with tear gas, water cannon and charges.
