with the memory of a goldfish
and the nuisance of a mind
like an overbearing mother asking questions all the time
really mean it when you say
that you think you need some quiet
but the quiet is unnerving and you’re gonna be around it for a while
and I think of all the thoughts i’ll have
when I have the time
always losing all the threads I’ve caught
forgetting where they wind
I stay up late at night
and sit behind my eyes
and relish in the clarity as if it were a prize
catch a wasp on my windowsill
in my hand try to hold it still
if the rattle in my palm is all that I am hanging on
the catch is half the thrill
and I think of all the thoughts I’ll have
when I have the time
