Be Careful of This Search Warrant Loophole! 🧐👮♂️
Did you know search warrants specify where officers are allowed to search in your home? But, to no shock to anyone, they will try to search outside of the specifications of the warrant. 😤
For example, if a team shows up to your door, they may say, "We're here to search your house." If you don't look at the search warrant, see where a judge approved the search to take place, and you just say "Go ahead," you are giving them consent to search the entire house. They could be there to search one room, but you just gave them permission to look through everything! Plus, cops are known to destroy everything in their path when executing search warrants. 🫨
If you ever have a team of cops show up to do a search warrant, ALWAYS ask for a copy of the warrant. Then, say clearly, "I do not give consent to a search of any kind to anything outside of the scope of the warrant." This will increase your chances of your lawyer being able to poke holes in their search and throw out any kind of evidence they may find.
