Husavik - My Home Town is a song in the Netflix movie: Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. In the lyrics Rachel McAdam's character Sigrit sings of her hometown Husavik. In this walking tour we will explore this town where her heart is.
Húsavík is a town on the shores of Skjálfandi bay in North Iceland with roughly 2300 inhabitants. Here are the highlights of the tour:
00:02 - We start the tour in Húsavík park. It is a relatively young park, started in 1975. Búðará river runs through the park and feeds the duck pond you see to the right. To the left we see a sculpture, called the Dance by Sigrún Guðmundsdóttir.
00:28 - The pond ends in a small water power plant, constructed in 1916 and capable of producing 50kW.
01:58 - The yellow house ahead is Naustið, a popular seafood restaurant.
02:32 - Húsavík theater straight ahead. It is currently running "The Little Shop of Horrors" (Litla Hryllingsbúðin).
04:30 - Húsavík church. It was consecrated in 1907 and stands 26 meters high.
05:06 - We now go down to the harbour. To the right is art featuring whales.
06:00 - Here are some whale watching boats. Húsavík is often referred to as the whale watching capital of Iceland. Thousands of visitors sail from Húsavík port to spot whales. The Whale museum is closeby which features real skeletons of giants such as the Blue Whale, the largest creature
to have ever existed.
06:56 - Gamli Baukur, a seafood restaurant. The house is made of driftwood.
13:45 - Salka restaurant.
