The difference between terrorism, insurrection, and insurgency have been explained. Terrorism does not attempt to challenge government forces directly, but acts to change perception as to the effectiveness or legitimacy of the government itself. Insurgency is an armed rebellion against the elected government. Their main objective is to overthrow the legitimate government and capture through the political power. This differentiates insurgent outfits from terrorist. Insurrection displays the disobedience for those who are existing authority.
