Appreciate the Integration of Culture and Technology in Suzhou.
Suzhou is located in the central part of Yangtze River Delta and the southeast of Jiangsu Province.
Suzhou City was initially built in 514 B.C. with a history of more than 2,500 years. It is one of the first 24 famous historical and cultural cities in China. It has 884 cultural relic protection sites including 61 national sites and 128 provincial sites.
On the second day we visited 2 places in Suzhou:
1. Suzhou Museum West 苏州博物馆西馆
Suzhou Museum, founded in 1960, is a local comprehensive museum and the centre of cultural relics collection, protection, research, exhibition and education in Suzhou. More than 2,100 pieces/sets of cultural relics are on display at Suzhou Museum West, including the Sword of the Wu Emperor Yu Mo, Lotus Sutra written with blue paper, and Jun Ware Three-Leg Washer with Nail-head Embossments.
It is set with many exhibition areas such as General History Exhibition Hall, Suzuo Craft Hall and Multimedia Exhibition Hall which fully display the long history and characteristic crafts of the Wu area from culture and art, Suzuo artistry and Suzhou-style life. Based on the Jiangnan culture, it is also set with an international cooperation hall to cooperate with the world-famous museums and actively explore the link and integration of world multiculturalism.
Suzhou Museum West lays emphasis on its educational function, trying to set up exploration experience halls in local integrated museums of China, and building the first museum school in China for young visitors to learn about Suzhou City and see the world in the open, interactive and exploratory experiences.
2. Xushuguan Warf 浒墅关大码头
The Xushuguan Canal Cultural Town Project is positioned as "a business card representing the cultural characteristics of Suzhou section of the canal, a door opening up cultural eco-tourism in high-tech zones and a fashion center serving the economic life of Xushuguan". It is committed to creating "the most beautiful scene" of Jiangsu section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
The east coast area covers 58,000 square meters, totaling an investment of RMB 150 million. Based on the architecture of the silkworm egg farms in the Republic of China, it will create an exquisite and elegant urban living space and build a unique cultural venue in Xushuguan through in-depth exploration of canal culture and sericulture culture. It has introduced diversified quality merchants such as VUE Hotel, Dayou Academy, Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Studio, Fine Tea Room and special catering. In the west coast area, 78,667 square meters supporting community plots are under orderly construction. The 54,667 square meters commercial core plot has been acquired, focusing on the local culture such as Xushuguan Government Office, Yuefan Tower and Xushu Academy, striving to reproduce the street style of Xushuguan Shangtang Area, creating a cultural and artistic space full of canal memory and canal interest, and building a new landmark of Suzhou night economy.
