Hurricane Milton forecast, 5 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2024
Indian River and Okeechobee counties are under a hurricane watch Tuesday as a major Category 4 Hurricane Milton churns toward Florida, where it's expected to make landfall along the west coast Wednesday night. Tropical storm watches are in effect for Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. According to the 5 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, an "extremely powerful" Milton is located just north of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and is slightly weaker with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, moving east-northeast at 12 mph.
