The stock market has entered a new bull market but it might not last. There are reasons the stock market crash could return but I've found stocks to buy that will win either way. It's a win-win scenario for investors and you need to be ready. I'll detail those stocks to watch and the stock market news this week.

It’s a new bull market! The S&P 500 has now climbed 20% from its bear market low in October. If history is a guide, then investors are right to cheer. The average bull market from 1926 has lasted an average of six years and seen stocks over 300% higher…but all is not rainbows and unicorns. There are false starts to bull markets and reasons to be skeptical of this one.

Stocks in the Energy sector are now down 7% for the year, underperforming the overall market by 19% as investors cheer the new bull market. One of the best-performing group of stocks over the past few years is now diving deep into negative territory. What gives? Why are oil stocks and the broader energy sector falling while the rest of the market seems bent on running higher?

The answer is, the oil market is pricing in a steep recession where demand for energy products falls off a cliff. It’s a surprising contrast to the stock market which seems to be pricing in a completely different scenario, one where the economy slows enough to bring inflation lower but we avoid a recession…a goldilocks scenario.

I’m not so sure we get anything like that goldilocks scenario. Bank lending and commercial real estate are entering a full-on crisis and we’re just starting to see the slowdown from the Fed’s fastest increase in rates in over 40 years. Fortunately, that disagreement in market outlook may be offering the perfect setup for your portfolio, a way to invest that protects your downside but still benefits if the economy keeps humming along. I'll detail how to take advantage of this market disconnect, profit from the new bull market and protect yourself from a stock crash, in this week's stock market news.
