On most cruise ships, you can not just plug your electronics in to your cabin's TV. Many cruise lines either disable the HDMI port, deactivate the source button on the remote control, or make it tricky you use your electronics. This is how I have used my electronics on Celebrity & Royal Caribbean cruise ships. It may work on some other cruise lines also. If this does not work on your ship, you may want to get a universal remote control to use on the ship.
