At first, we have the Pioneer DJ DDJ-800. The DDJ-800 offers essentially the same features as the well-known 4-channel DDJ-1000, but in a smaller, 2-channel version that costs around $400 less and weighs about 1.3 kg less. It replicates the design and functions of Pioneer DJ's CDJ-NXS2 media players and DJM mixers, which are professional club standards, but in a single device for managing the company's Rekordbox software. A performance-ready version of Rekordbox is also unlocked, saving you money on software subscriptions unless you want to access additional features like the DVS Plus Pack or higher subscription tiers for cloud storage and syncing of music libraries. You can modify its color LCD displays in the centre of the jog wheels to show the information you want to see, such as BPM, cue and loop points, and the waveform with playback position, so you could see the crucial track information without having to look at the computer screen. Also included is a small display that shows the settings for the well-known Beat FX feature on Pioneer's DJM mixers. Lastly, its 16 performance pads control many pad modes, including Hot Cues, Pad FX, Beat Jump, Sampler, Keyboard Mode, Beat Loop, and Key Move, which can adjust the key of the next track to match the master deck automatically or shift the keys up or down at your preference.
Next is RANE ONE. While most DJ controllers with jog wheels allow you to scratch, dedicated scratch DJs typically prefer to utilise vinyl turntables because they give them the most control and the best tactile feedback for honing their craft. Scratch DJs don't have to make many compromises in order to use a DJ controller, though, thanks to the Rane One. It offers advantages including a dedicated loop area, track browsing and loading, and eight multi-function performance pads on each deck in addition to the experience of two turntables with a scratch mixer.
